Beast of Burden

When a camel begins to die, each tooth kicks out like an advent calendar. His gums go bald and he knows. I wonder how it feels when there’s only one, maybe two days left, if in the language of camels, the word for ‘death’ sounds remarkably like the low hum of “oasis.”
