Mid-Way Through What Has Been Called A Movement

The incidental music — a long in dying bell
whose mirth one associates with few things
besides abandon like the plume of a blue and yellow
handkerchief at the end of a pistol used
to demarcate time which is a chorus with deer-like faces
altogether too innocent to know if or how loudly
to question the order of things as they now stand,
given the luck of another narrow escape
singing is obvious tribute to.
