We are mighty happy to be releasing this next issue of Vinyl. This issue is the first that included an open submission period and we were drowned in good poetry. Thank you for that! What we had sought to do through solicitation in the past, bring you to a rich selection of voices and styles and brilliance, we were able to do again, but this time by the poets coming to us. The experience was overwhelming and wonderful.
On the other hand, the fiction submissions were not thrilling. I hate to say it but that’s just the truth. We will continue to look for and hope for fiction to publish, but we won’t publish any until it matches the quality, power, and grace of the poetry that we offer. Our next submission window is coming in May. Check our guidelines for details. Dig deep and come up with fiction that makes us howl. We won’t publish anything less.
In this new issue there will be names you know and names you don’t. Be brave. Read work from the names you don’t know first. As writers we must always push, both further into ourselves and further away from ourselves. Our job as readers is the same. You will find jewels in this issue that you did not expect. And what is more pleasurable than that?
Thank you as always, to Phillip B. Williams, Poetry Editor, and Mark Derks, Fiction Editor, for their dedication, thoroughness, and instinct. Thank you to Thomas Patrick Levy for the constant tending of all things technical. Thank you to the readers - there are now over 10,600 of you across more than 100 countries. Keep pushing this work out! Most especially, thank you to Allie Kelley for her cover art and to the poets who make this issue what it is. Magic.
